The Network and Telecommunication Systems, Services and Security laboratory (NetLab) was founded in 2004 under the supervision of Prof. C. Douligeris in the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus.

The research and teaching activities of the lab span several areas of computer science and networking, with a special focus on telecommunications, network & computer security on wireless applications and information and communication technologies (ICT) in the healthcare domain. Areas of interest include energy efficiency, power control, admission control, interference analysis, green communications, information systems, data privacy and related Hellenic and EU regulation, IT applications and privacy in healthcare, wireless sensor networks, access control mechanisms, distributed networks, quality of service, traffic engineering and policy-based management.

The staff of the lab consists of senior researchers, post doctoral fellows and PhD candidates and has extensive experience in national and international research and development projects. Other activities of the lab include the organization and/or co-organization of seminars, gatherings, conferences, lectures and lesson cycles of continued special education and training for the interested, the making of publications, inviting internationally recognized scientists and celebrities to promote the objectives and the establishment of the laboratory and finally the overall consolidation of the educational and research work.
