UTSA Football team beats Baylor for first win over a Power 5 opponent. The women's basketball team wins first-ever Southland Conference Championship in 2008. In December 2008, UTSA announced the planned expansion of the athletics program centered on a new football program.

In 2006, the stadium was renovated, and outfitted with lights that allowed games to be played at night.
