The first thing you'll be able to pick is picking a story scenario, there are 4 prebuilt scenarios to choose from. Similarly to Dwarf Fortress, whenever you want something made, you have to issue a bill for it at the appropriate work space. Certain events will guarantee times of hardship for your colony, like a volcanic fallout scenario. Then there is Randy, who will literally throw any scenario he feels like, regardless of how ready you are, or aren’t.
I have been following RimWorld's development from the beginning, and every session with this game was superb. You can choose from three different A.I types: Cassandra Classic, Phoebe Chillax, and Randy Random.

If its creators can muster even a fraction of the stamina that the Adams brothers have with its ASCII ancestor, we can all look forward to a PC classic. For a game that is focussed on base-building and resource management, I find that the combat system that grows out of the game's simple control system is actually one of the most satisfying I've played. One moment your entire base is covered in flames from a broken power conduit; the next a pod with a single survivor falls from the heavens (not at all) eager to be put to work.
