The lady at the register checked out a younger couple that was about a person ahead of me in line and they were only buying one bottle of alcohol. Because the prices are insane! However they aren't, they are at least TWICE what they are anywhere else. Given that the location, like the one on North Temple in Salt Lake, is accessible only if you intend on getting there (meaning you can only get to it via ONE single direction, eastbound, on the south side of the street, in both cases), this also means foot traffic will tend to be fairly low. We purchased a large glass bottle of wine, the cashier could tell simply by the sound of the cap and the bottles smell that the bottle has not been air tight for quite sometime. If you're going to choke off the supply of spirits to the citizenry by forcing them to buy it only from the state, the very least you can do is give them a decent selection. Normally, I'll go to my local place. Utah laws require it to be less than 3.5% alcohol, which is basically half content of everywhere else in earth. But it is not okay when you have 5 people waiting in line behind your current customers and you spend 15 minutes playing Liquor Store Oprah with them on a Friday night, while the rest of us politely shuffle around because where else can we go to get hard liquor in that town?!
